    We believe that, over the next decades, some of the most crucial processes of social change in Russia will be inseparably intertwined with the evolution and proliferation of new modes of communication. This conclusion seems to be shared by numerous research centers and scholars in the United States, Europe and Russia, who are currently studying the reciprocal relationships between the internet and Russian society and culture from a wide variety of perspective.
    The ambition of the Harriman project is to bundle these efforts by providing various platforms for discussion, supporting intellectual exchange and setting up lasting, personal networks of researchers. The Harriman project aims at achieving these ends by sponsoring a broad variety of real life events at the Harriman Institute in New York. Amongst these were in the academic year 2009/2010:
    ...
    Europe and Russia from time to time;

    And a culminative International Open Conference on May 7-8-9.
